Everyone has a Right to speak his/her mind in our country. So does Gurmehar Kaur, a student of University Of Delhi who has become a topic of debate and controversies since the ruckus of Ramjas College. The Bollywood Industry, the sports people of our country, the students, political parties and everybody else have chosen their sides.
Calling Gurmehar Kaur Anti-National and giving her rape threats is wrong. She also has the right to speak her mind. But she isn’t right completely. Wrongfully Using her martyr father’s name, trying to speak on behalf of whole army community is something not acceptable. Yesterday, Major Gaurav Arya revealed that her father was not martyred in Kargil War, but in another army operation.
Although, it doesn’t make him less martyr, but mis-stating the facts is wrong.
Dr. NK Kalia, father of Kargil martyr captain Saurabh Kalia came out in support of Delhi University student Gurmehar Kaur, who has allegedly received rape threats over her social media campaign against ABVP. However, he refuse to agree on her opinion.
“I strongly condemn the way she was targeted on social media. This is shameful. This is not our culture. It is not acceptable in a country where women are revered as goddesses. Esteem of a woman is above all things, irrespective of her caste, creed or religion,” Dr. Kalia said.
Dr. Kalia said that everyone has a right to express oneself and people may agree or disagree “but this not a way to show disagreement”.
Although, he came in support of her, but he doesn’t agree with Gurmehar Kaur who is a First Year Student Of Literature in Lady Sriram College of Commerce, DU.
“Pakistan did not kill her father, war killed him,”he says.
It would be disrespectful to a soldier who laid down his life for the sake of nation, Dr Kalia said.
“The young woman should understand that who perpetrated the war. Pakistan does not understand the language of peace,” he said.
“War did not kill my son (Saurabh), Pakistan killed him,” added Dr. Kalia.
He also expressed disappointment over students ‘over indulging’ in campus politics.
Captain Saurabh Kalia attained martyrdom on 9 June, 1999. He was tortured by Pakistani Army by burning Body with cigarrates, piercing eardrums with hot rods, puncturing eyes before removing them, breaking most of the teeth and bones, fractures of the skull, cutting the lips, chipping the nose, chopping of limbs and private organs besides inflicting all sorts of physical and mental tortures and finally shooting him dead.
So here is the question to all those who support Gurmehar’s statement, “Pakistan Did not kill my father. War did.”
Was Captain Saurabh ‘KILLED’ by War?
Or He attained ‘MARTYRDOM’ as ‘PAKISTAN KILLED HIM.?’
